Best Mattress Without Fiberglass Overall
A Comfy Bed That Suits Most Sleepers
Taper: Hybride | Fermeté: Plush, medium or firm | Livraison: Free shipping or white glove delivery with or without old mattress removal | Procès: 1 an | Garantie: 25-year limited warranty
Avantages :
- Couverture respirante
- Three firmness options to suit different preferences
- No chemical flame retardants
Inconvénients :
- Some may find the plush style too soft
- May take longer to receive mattress
The Avocado Green Mattress is our top pick for many reasons, including the fact that it’s made without fiberglass. On top of being made without fiberglass, it also doesn’t use any chemical flame retardants in the mattress either. Instead, it uses Certifié GOTS organic wool, which is naturally fire-resistant. We also love that Avocado is extremely transparent about what’s in its mattresses, listing all the materials used, the certifications each one has and their flammability test results. This hybrid bed is made with individually wrapped coils and has seven ergonomic zones for back support.
There are three options for firmness to choose from which are firm, standard with a pillow top and plush with a box top. The standard and pillow-top models are made with GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, which is a firmer type of latex. The plush box-top model uses Certifié FSC Talalay latex, which is softer than Dunlop so it has a plush feel. All styles use Certifié GOTS organic cotton for the top cover so it’s soft and breathable. One thing to note, this mattress is made to order so it may take longer to receive.
Ce que dit notre écrivain : I currently sleep on the plush box-top Avocado Green Mattress and can say it’s extremely comfortable, very plush and feels like I’m sleeping on a fluffy cloud. I love a soft mattress, but as a combination sleeper, it might be too soft, so I would recommend the plush style for predominantly side sleepers. Combination sleepers would likely want the medium level firmness. Stomach and back sleepers or those who like a firm mattress, should opt for the firm level.

Best Budget Mattress Without Fiberglass
An Affordable Firm Mattress
Taper: Mousse | Fermeté: Mi-ferme | Livraison: Free shipping or white glove delivery for $100 | Procès: 120 nuits | Garantie: Lifetime limited warranty
Avantages :
- Cooling gel memory foam
- Couverture respirante
- Lower in price than many other foam mattresses
Inconvénients :
- May not be for someone who likes a soft mattress
- Side sleepers may find this doesn’t relieve enough pressure on joints
It can be hard to find a queen-size mattress under $1,000 that’s comfortable and fiberglass-free. However, the Bear Original is just that. The cover is made with Tencel fibers so it’s designed to be breathable and soft. The mattress is made up of three layers of foam. Hot sleepers shouldn’t have to worry about overheating since the first layer is made with cooling gel-infused memory foam. The second layer is what Bear calls its Dynamic Foam Layer, which helps relieve pressure while still being supportive. The last layer is the base layer, made with high-density foam for stability and durability.
Bear states this mattress has a firm feel and reviewers tend to agree, so this is likely best suited for a stomach, back or combination sleeper. Not only is this fiberglass-free, but it’s also GREENGUARD Gold Certified, which means it’s free from many chemicals and pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde and phthalates. The foam is CertiPur-US certified, which means it’s made without formaldehyde and flame retardants, and it’s low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Ce que disent les critiques : One customer writes, “The Bear Original has a nice firmness that feels very supportive and comfortable. It’s also not too hard. We like the slightly soft initial feel.”

Taper: Hybride | Fermeté: Doux | Livraison: Ships in a box | Procès: 100 nuits | Garantie: 15 ans
Avantages :
- Helps relieve pressure points
- Plush and luxurious feel
- Cooling fabric and foam helps alleviate heat
Inconvénients :
- Need to put multiple pieces together
- White glove delivery service not offered
Helix’s Sunset Elite Mattress is built with side sleepers in mind, so it’s extra plush to relieve joint pressure points. It has a soft pillow top and has five layers of alternating foam and microcoils with individually wrapped coils as the base. The top of the bed layer is made with a quilted foam pillow top that feels luxurious when you lay on it. Helix uses their GlacioTex Elite cooling fabric, which is designed to help dissipate heat. The layer beneath is memory foam infused with copper gel, which is also made to keep you cool by pulling heat away from your body.
I’ve slept on the plush version of this bed and it was one of the most comfortable mattresses for side sleeping. I noticed I didn’t have to switch sides as much to try to relieve pressure on my shoulders. I also appreciate that the fabric feels cool to the touch, which helps keep you cool. One drawback, there are multiple pieces that arrive in two separate boxes and white glove delivery service isn’t offered so you need to put them together, which can be a hassle.
Ce que dit notre écrivain : As a side sleeper, I found this bed extremely comfortable, with the softness allowing my shoulders and hips to sink into it while still feeling supported.
Best Mattress Without Fiberglass For Back Pain
Relieve Back Pain With Extra Support
Taper: Hybride | Fermeté: Plush soft, luxury firm or firm | Livraison: Free white glove in-room delivery and set up (arrives flat) | Procès: 365 nuits | Garantie: Durée de vie
Avantages :
- Firm back support
- Free white glove delivery service
- Breathable so you don’t overheat
Inconvénients :
- May be too firm for side sleepers or those who like a soft bed
- Delivery can take longer since it’s made to order
Unlike many other mattresses you order online, Saatva doesn’t deliver their mattresses rolled up in a box. Instead, they’re made to order and delivered via a white glove delivery service, which is free. The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness levels, plush soft, luxury firm or firm. I’ve tried the plush soft mattress and of the dozens of mattresses I’ve slept on, the plush soft feels firmer than what other brands would describe as soft. I found it comfortable and offered plenty of support, especially when lying on my back. It’s a great option for those with back pain who need a firmer mattress, in which case you likely want to choose the luxury firm or firm option.
This mattress is a hybrid made up of foam on a spring base with a small pillow top. It feels closer to a traditional bed than a memory foam bed since you don’t sink in. Plus, since you lie on top rather than sink in, it allows air to circulate around your body so you don’t overheat. Those who like a firm mattress and need back support should enjoy the Saatva Classic. Side sleepers or those who like a very soft bed may not find this as comfortable. It’s available in 11.5 and 14.5 inch heights, so you can choose the one that suits your height preference.
Ce que disent les critiques : ”I ordered the Saatva Classic in the Luxury Firm as I have seven herniated discs,” begins one reviewer. “My old mattress was too soft and I had been sleeping on the floor half the night, trying to straighten my spine. I was worn out. The first night I slept in my Saatva Classic I was in heaven. It was the first night I had slept a solid sleep in at least two years. It has been just as comfy every night since then, too. It is just the right firmness for my back but has the comfort of a soft top.”

Best Organic Mattress Without Fiberglass
Six Eco-Friendly Layers With Added Breathability
Forbes Vetted readers get $50 off any Nolah mattress by entering code FORBES50OFF at checkout (can be used on top of other promo codes).
Taper: Hybride | Fermeté: Moyen | Livraison: Arrives flat in a box | Procès: 120 nuits | Garantie: Durée de vie
Avantages :
- Made with organic and natural materials
- Uses organic wool as a fire barrier instead of fiberglass
- Holds many certifications for organic materials, low or no chemicals and sustainable practices
Inconvénients :
- Some may not like the bouncing sensation
- Those who like a very firm or very soft mattress may not find this comfortable
The Nolah Natural Mattress has six layers. The top cover is made with GOTS-certified organic cotton that’s soft and breathable. The next layer is organic wool, which serves as both additional breathable cushioning that helps wick away moisture and a natural fire barrier so no fiberglass or chemical flame retardants are needed.
Two layers are made of natural Talalay latex, which has a softer feel than Dunlop latex. The latex cushions joints and relieves pressure without the sinking feeling of memory foam. It’s Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1, Eco-Institut and Rainforest Alliance certified, so it’s free of many harmful chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as well as meeting the Rainforest Alliance’s criteria for sustainable social, economic and environmental practices. Other certifications include Greenguard Gold, which means the mattress meets strict standards for low chemical emissions and the wool and cotton are GOTS-certified.
The coils have three different zones with varying pressures to help keep your spine aligned. We love that the bottom cover is made with organic cotton and has handles to make carrying easier. Nolah states this is a luxury firm (or what we’d consider as medium-firm) mattress. I found it accurate compared to other beds I’ve slept on—it feels medium-firm.
Ce que dit notre écrivain : I’ve slept on this mattress and it does have a slight bounce when you first lay on it, which I didn’t think I would like. However, after sleeping on it for a few weeks, it became one of my favorite mattresses I’ve slept on.
